A stand alone gold

With Christmas approaching, it was pretty much necessary in my opinion to find myself a festive shimmer for my poorly shaped and super short nails. I have a real problem with my nails and applying polish - I'm extremely neat and impatient so any smudging or chipping and it will be off in a flash. So I'm always on the hunt for easy to apply, long lasting and fast-drying nail polishes.

And I struck gold (get it) with this off-chance purchase from Topshop in May - "Heart of Gold" from the Metallic Nails line. I bought it in the sale on a whim and never had chance to wear it until recently and it is very beautiful. Only one coat is needed for a completely opaque, shimmery gold layer due to the lovely formula and wide brush. The gold isn't too glittery which is helpful as it isn't too distracting and can be worn on a day to day basis. Chipping is minimal and top coat is unnecessary. The only downfall (and quite a major one unfortunately) is that Topshop no longer stock it. So you might say this post is entirely irrelevant - I'm sorry for that. Hopefully there are some dupes lurking around for a similar price which you can get your hands on if you've been inspired by the colour - let me know if you have anything similar!

Thanks for reading, and hope you're all getting as excited for Christmas as I am - even if it is only November. What are your thoughts on the famous John Lewis advert? (I cry. Every time.)

Sn-UGG-ly this Christmas? Not me...

I myself have owned a pair of Ugg boots. And yes, I found them to be very comfortable, long lasting and obviously fashionable. But little did I know how they make these iconic fluffy boots at the time - now, I do.

After reading an article that a friend shared on Facebook, I never plan on going near a pair of them again and would encourage you to read the article and, if you have the stomach for it, watch the video that is linked in the article.

The article explains how sheep are abused in the cruelest, most disgusting way in order to produce these in-demand boots. I won't go into detail here as it is all explained clearly in the article. I will warn you, even though I am passionate about the safety and protection of animals, I found the video too upsetting just over half way in and I had to turn it off the first time, but I have since watched it to the end. If you find the article and/or the video too upsetting to read/watch, the least you can do is share the article to friends and help spread the word. Or just save your pennies this Christmas and stay away from all things Ugg. This is the only way that these companies can be exposed and stopped from making ludicrous profit from the utter torture of innocent animals.

Thanks for reading, and do share the link below.

A polite introduction

So, to anyone that might be reading this, hello. This is my first ever blog post so I would like to introduce myself.

I'm Kate. I am going to start posting about beauty, fashion, lifestyle and other random thoughts and feelings here on my very first blog. Posts will be irregular at first (at least I'm honest) but I hope you stick around to check some out. After reading many beauty blogs for a long time, and watching YouTube beauty gurus for even longer, I decided the time had come for me to have a bash at one of my own. Feel free to leave comments telling me how to improve and thanks if you stuck around just to read this.

Bye for now!
